Google has launched Gemini 2.0 Flash, an experimental model that features native image generation, available for free to users of Google AI Studio and developers via the Gemini API. This marks a significant advancement as it is the first multimodal image generation model from a major U.S. tech company directly accessible to consumers.

The model provides:

Integrated Text and Image Generation: Users can tell stories, and the model will illustrate them, maintaining consistency in characters and settings. Feedback allows for retelling or style changes.

Conversational Image Editing: Users can engage in natural language dialogues to iteratively edit images, refining ideas collaboratively.

Enhanced World Understanding: The model leverages world knowledge and reasoning to create realistic imagery, making it suitable for detailed illustrations, such as recipes.

Improved Text Rendering: Gemini 2.0 Flash demonstrates superior text rendering capabilities compared to other models, making it effective for creating advertisements, social media posts, and invitations.

Moonvalley, a Los Angeles-based startup, has introduced an AI video-generating model named "Marey," which it claims is among the few trained exclusively on openly licensed data. Developed in collaboration with Asteria, the model offers features such as fine-grained camera and motion controls, allowing users to manage specific movements within scenes, like animating a checkers piece or simulating wind in hair.

Marey can generate HD video clips up to 30 seconds long and is positioned as a lower-risk option in terms of legal challenges compared to competitors who often use public data that may include copyrighted material. Moonvalley emphasizes its commitment to ethical practices by allowing creators to request the removal of their content from its models and providing an indemnity policy to protect users from copyright issues.

Snapchat has introduced advanced AI video Lenses exclusively for its premium subscription tier, Snapchat Platinum. These Lenses use an in-house generative video model, allowing users to create engaging content with familiar Lens functionality. Initially, there are three Lenses available: "Raccoon," "Fox," and "Spring Flowers," which enhance Snaps by animating furry friends and creating a zoom-out effect to reveal a bouquet of flowers.

For Snapchat Platinum subscribers, these Lenses will appear first in the Lens carousel. Users can capture Snaps using either the front or back camera while the AI simultaneously generates and saves the video to Memories. The content can then be easily shared with friends or posted to Stories and Spotlight, with more AI Video Lenses set to be released weekly.

Lovelace Studio is developing a survival craft sandbox game that leverages AI to assist players in building customizable virtual worlds. These worlds support multiple users, allowing players to discover each other and form social networks. After the procedural generation of a world, players are encouraged to personalize their environments, enhancing human creativity rather than relying solely on AI.

The Boston-based team, which includes experts in robotics and computer vision, has raised $500,000 from investors such as Sequoia Capital Scout and HalfCourt Ventures. Lovelace is currently testing the game on Steam and plans to secure additional funding as it continues to develop the project, which has been in progress for four years.

Aura Prods. has partnered with Vidu, an AI-driven content creation platform from ShengShu Technology, to produce an original anime series using advanced AI animation technology. Announced at Hong Kong FilMart, the project will consist of 50 short-form episodes set to release across major social media platforms in 2025, aiming to blend AI capabilities with traditional storytelling methods.

Luo Yan, a producer at Aura Prods., highlighted the unique combination of American storytelling with Japanese art styles, noting that this fusion could create more memorable and engaging content for younger audiences compared to traditional American comic and animation styles.

Three UK has launched a campaign featuring a digitally recreated interview with Lily Parr, one of England's greatest footballers, as part of their #WeSeeYou Network. This initiative, in partnership with Chelsea FC Women, aims to celebrate and champion women in football. The three-minute interview, released on International Women’s Day, highlights Parr's remarkable but often overlooked legacy, with former England Lioness and Chelsea midfielder Karen Carney interviewing her footballing hero.

The project, developed by Three's in-house agency Generation alongside Mischief PR, demonstrates how AI can enhance storytelling. By combining advanced AI technology with historical research, performance capture, and digital artistry, the team brought Parr's legacy to life. They used archival information about Parr to inform the AI-generated responses, while Territory Studios helped create an authentic portrayal through high-resolution restoration of archival materials and sophisticated AI techniques.

To ensure authenticity, the project involved collaboration with a method actor and voice coach to capture Parr’s essence. The final product integrates AI networks for facial recognition and 3D mapping, allowing for an ultra-realistic portrayal. Greg Farrington, Senior Creative at Generation, emphasized the commitment to authenticity, stating that the aim was to recreate Parr’s appearance, stories, and voice as faithfully as possible, showcasing the potential of AI in preserving and sharing historical narratives.
