Christie's has announced its first dedicated auction for AI-generated art, titled 'Augmented Intelligence,' featuring works from artists like Mat Dryhurst and a live painting robot. Set to begin on February 20 at Christie's Rockefeller Center in New York, the auction has faced backlash over concerns that many generative AI tools were trained on artists' works without permission, leading to an open letter with over 1,800 signatures calling for its cancellation. Christie’s maintains that the featured artists use AI to enhance their existing practices, but critics argue it undermines traditional art creation.

from Google
Google has come under scrutiny for allegedly faking AI-generated output in a Super Bowl ad featuring its Gemini AI. The commercial presented a business owner using Gemini to generate a website description, but the text had been on the Wisconsin Cheese Mart’s website since 2020, before Gemini's launch. This revelation has raised questions about the authenticity of the AI's capabilities, especially after the ad initially included incorrect information about Gouda cheese consumption, which Google later edited out.
