The Beatles celebrated a significant milestone by winning their eighth Grammy for Best Rock Performance with the song "Now and Then," a track brought to life in 2023 using advanced AI technology. Originally a demo by John Lennon from the late 1970s, the song was meticulously enhanced by Peter Jackson’s sound team. Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr contributed to the final version, intending to include it in The Beatles Anthology. This Grammy win marks a historic moment as it is the first song to receive a nomination with the assistance of AI.

Good cyborg! (Partial) copyright granted.
In a landmark ruling, the U.S. Copyright Office has determined that purely AI-generated art lacks copyright protection, asserting that outputs derived solely from text prompts do not qualify as original works. This decision clarifies that users of AI systems cannot claim authorship of the generated content, regardless of the prompt's complexity. The ruling has implications for cases like the Midjourney-generated image "Théâtre D’opéra Spatial," which sought copyright registration. However, the office noted that human-created works incorporating AI-generated elements could still receive protection if they undergo significant creative modification, leaving the door open for future changes in copyright law as technology evolves.
