Canva has unveiled its own foundational design model, enhancing its platform with AI features that understand design layers and formats. This new model generates editable designs rather than flat images, applicable across various formats like social media posts, presentations, and websites. Robert Kawalsky, Canva's global head of product, explained that the model allows users to start with a prompt and iterate directly on their designs, moving beyond the limitations of previous diffusion models.

In addition to the design model, Canva introduced several new features, including an enhanced AI assistant that integrates throughout the platform, enabling users to generate visual content and get suggestions while collaborating. The platform now supports spreadsheet integration for creating data visualization widgets and has launched Canva Grow, an all-in-one marketing platform that combines asset creation with performance analytics. Canva also added email design capabilities and acquired the ad analytics firm MagicBrief earlier this year, further expanding its offerings.

Google Labs has launched Pomelli, an AI-driven marketing tool designed to assist businesses in generating scalable and on-brand social media campaigns. Recognizing that creating impactful marketing content often requires significant time and resources, Pomelli aims to streamline this process by allowing businesses to establish their unique brand identity, referred to as "Business DNA," through an analysis of their websites and existing images. This profile includes essential elements such as tone of voice, custom fonts, images, and color palettes.

Once the Business DNA is established, Pomelli generates tailored campaign ideas, addressing the common challenge of developing fresh marketing strategies. Users can either select from the suggested ideas or input their own prompts to create customized content. The tool then produces high-quality, branded marketing assets that can be easily edited and downloaded for use across various channels, including social media and advertisements. Currently available as a public beta in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, Pomelli is positioned as an early experiment, with user feedback being encouraged to refine its capabilities.

Adobe has introduced new AI assistants for its Express and Photoshop applications, aimed at simplifying image creation and editing for users. In Adobe Express, the AI assistant operates in a unique mode that allows users to generate images and designs through text prompts, while still providing access to traditional editing tools. This dual-mode approach is designed to cater to both students and professionals, enabling them to achieve their creative goals without repeatedly switching interfaces.

In contrast, the Photoshop assistant, currently in closed beta testing, is integrated into the sidebar and can understand layers, assisting users with tasks like object selection and mask creation. Adobe is also exploring a project called "Project Moonlight," which intends to enable coordination among different Adobe tools and connect to users' social channels for a better understanding of their unique styles. Furthermore, Adobe plans to connect Adobe Express with ChatGPT using OpenAI’s app integrations API, allowing users to create designs directly through ChatGPT. Alongside these developments, Adobe announced new AI features for its Creative Cloud apps, including third-party model options for generative fill in Photoshop and an AI-powered object mask feature in Premiere Pro.

Universal Music Group (UMG) and Udio, an AI-powered music creation platform, have announced strategic agreements aimed at launching a new licensed AI music creation platform. This collaboration comes after the settlement of copyright infringement litigation between the two companies and is designed to create innovative opportunities for music creation, consumption, and streaming. The new platform, set to launch in 2026, will use cutting-edge generative AI technology trained on authorized and licensed music, ensuring a legally protected environment for users to customize, stream, and share music.

Andrew Sanchez, Co-Founder and CEO of Udio, expressed excitement about the collaboration, emphasizing its potential to unite AI with the music industry in a way that supports artists. Sir Lucian Grainge, Chairman and CEO of UMG, reiterated the company's commitment to embracing new technologies and developing business models that benefit artists and songwriters. Udio's existing product will continue to be available during the transition to the new platform, with modifications including fingerprinting and filtering to ensure controlled access to creations. UMG has a history of pioneering AI-related agreements, positioning this partnership with Udio as a significant advancement in the integration of technology and music rights management.

Google releases first AI-Generated TV Ad

Google has launched its first TV advertisement created with Veo 3, featuring a plush turkey character using AI Mode in Google Search to plan an escape from a Thanksgiving celebration. The ad will begin airing on television and will also appear in movie theaters and on digital platforms. This initiative is part of the broader "Just Ask Google" campaign, which aims to position Google’s AI search features as integral to everyday life, especially among users who may have reservations about AI technology.

The ad was developed by Google Creative Lab without prominently labeling it as AI-generated. Robert Wong, co-founder of the Creative Lab, noted that consumer interest in whether ads are AI-created is minimal. The broader “Just Ask Google” campaign aims to integrate Google’s AI search features into everyday use, particularly addressing concerns from users who may be apprehensive about AI technology. While Google does not plan to use AI for every advertisement, it acknowledges the technology's potential as a valuable tool in marketing.
