The Gemini app has received a significant upgrade with a new image editing model from Google DeepMind, now integrated for enhanced user control. This update focuses on maintaining character likeness while allowing users to creatively transform photos, ensuring that depictions of friends, family, and pets remain consistent across edits. Users can easily modify images by adding costumes, changing backgrounds, or blending multiple photos together.

New capabilities include multi-turn editing, where users can iteratively adjust images, and the ability to apply styles from one image to another. These features enable a wide range of creative possibilities, from placing a person or pet in different scenarios to mixing designs. Starting today, users can access these advanced editing tools within the Gemini app, with all AI-generated images featuring visible and invisible watermarks.

HeyGen has introduced an advanced Digital Twin feature, powered by the Avatar IV model, designed to create lifelike video representations of users. This new technology accurately mirrors gestures, expressions, and mannerisms, allowing the Digital Twin to adapt to scripts and deliver lines as users would. It offers a seamless way for creators and professionals to produce video content without the usual challenges of filming and retakes.

The Digital Twin aims to enhance user presence across various platforms, making it easier to build brands, educate customers, and engage new audiences. By handling video creation, this feature allows users to focus on their core activities while maintaining a personal connection with their audience. YouTube has been enhancing user-uploaded videos with AI without notifying creators or obtaining permission. This covert operation has resulted in subtle alterations to visuals, such as sharper skin and distorted features, leading some content creators to express concern about the authenticity of their work. Popular YouTuber Rick Beato noted that the changes gave his videos an uncharacteristic appearance, prompting discussions about how AI modifications may affect viewer trust and the representation of reality.

The company confirmed it is conducting experiments on select videos within YouTube Shorts, aiming to improve video quality through machine learning techniques. Critics argue that this lack of transparency could erode trust between creators and their audiences, as AI increasingly shapes the content we consume. While some creators remain indifferent to these changes, others worry about the implications of AI editing on the authenticity of online media.

Mastercard’s AI turns commutes into personalized storytime

Mastercard has introduced ‘Transit Tales,’ a digital experience aimed at transforming daily commutes for Sydneysiders into engaging journeys. Developed by McCann with digital production from Nakatomi and sound design by Rumble Studios, this initiative uses artificial intelligence and real-time transit data to deliver personalized audio stories tailored to the duration of each commuter's train ride. Available at no cost, Transit Tales serves over 1.2 million daily travelers.

Users can choose from classic literary works such as The Great Gatsby and Dracula, reimagined in various genres like Mystery Thriller and Sci-Fi Fantasy. Each journey generates a unique AI-narrated story based on the user's route and selected genre. The project aims to provide an inclusive and enjoyable commuting experience, with transcripts available for accessibility. According to Florencia Aimo, Vice President of Integrated Marketing and Communications at Mastercard, Transit Tales exemplifies the brand's commitment to creating innovative, multi-sensory experiences that make everyday routines more enjoyable. The campaign is set to run until September 28, 2025, across Sydney’s train and metro network, supported by various digital and social activations.
