The New York Times has sent a cease-and-desist letter to the AI search engine Perplexity, demanding it stop using the publicationโs content. The letter highlights concerns over copyright infringement and the unauthorized use of articles. This move reflects growing tensions between traditional media and AI companies regarding content ownership, and the complex legal landscape surrounding AI-generated content.
Lacoste is using AI to fight counterfeiting, partnering with French company Cypheme on the Vrai AI anti-counterfeit tool. This technology can accurately identify genuine products by analyzing microscopic details, achieving a 99.7% accuracy rate. The initiative reflects the brand's ongoing commitment to protecting its intellectual property, particularly its iconic crocodile logo. Lacoste aims to enhance its anti-counterfeit measures amid rising challenges in the luxury fashion market.
Midjourney plans to launch an upgraded web tool allowing users to edit images using generative AI. This tool will enable users to modify uploaded images and adjust details like colors and texture based on text prompts. Initially available to a subset of users, it aims to gather feedback to refine the technology before a public release.
Meta has introduced Movie Gen, a suite of AI models enabling users to create custom videos and sound from text inputs. In collaboration with Blumhouse, filmmakers are testing the technology to provide feedback for its development. The pilot program aims to enhance the creative process by helping directors visualize their ideas more effectively. Meta plans to expand this initiative in 2025, focusing on empowering creators in the entertainment industry.

BarkleyOKRP has launched the "Unfinished Legacies" campaign to raise awareness about the fentanyl epidemic, using AI to recreate the likeness of three individuals who died from overdoses. The campaign features emotional monologues from these young individuals, approved by their families, to humanize the impact of fentanyl.
Introduced by Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas, the initiative aims to educate the community and provide resources like Naloxone to prevent overdoses. The campaign targets 18- to 35-year-olds, using social media platforms to share powerful stories in a peer-to-peer format, focusing on honesty and education rather than scare tactics.

Lenovo, in collaboration with Innovations in Dementia, has launched "Alzheimerโs Intelligence," a photorealistic AI avatar designed to support individuals living with dementia. The avatar, named "Liv," provides a platform for users to access first-hand perspectives on the disease, allowing them to ask questions and receive candid responses. Created with input from families affected by dementia, the project aims to humanize the experiences of those impacted. The AI technology aggregates real-life experiences into a responsive avatar, currently in trials, with the goal of making this resource publicly available to help navigate the challenges of dementia.
