Kodak Launches AI experience for people with dementia

Kodak has introduced "Memory Shots," an AI website experience designed to help individuals with dementia reconstruct memories through images. Users can create AI-generated photos by typing a short description of a memory and specifying the time period, resulting in images styled like Kodak photos from that era.

Developed in collaboration with the Belgian agency Happiness, the tool aims to facilitate conversations between caregivers and loved ones. The project was informed by research on reminiscence therapy, which uses cues like images to evoke memories, potentially reducing stress and anxiety in patients.

Geoffrey Hantson, chief creative officer of Happiness, noted the communication challenges faced by those with dementia. The team consulted with dementia specialists to refine the tool, which has shown promise in enhancing emotional and detailed conversations among users. Future studies will explore its effectiveness in triggering longer dialogues and memories.
