Google has launched Mixboard, an AI-driven application designed to help users create mood boards without needing an existing image collection. Competing with Pinterest's collage feature, Mixboard allows users to start projects using text prompts, enabling the AI to generate ideas and images. The service is initially available as a public beta in the U.S. through Google Labs, offering pre-populated boards for those seeking inspiration.
Mixboard incorporates Google’s new image editing model, Nano Banana, which facilitates complex edits and realistic image generation. Users can make adjustments to their creations, combine images, and even generate text based on the visuals in their mood boards. Mixboard can be used for various purposes, such as brainstorming home decor ideas, event themes, and DIY projects, and encourages engagement through a Discord community for users.

OpenAI has launched a new shopping feature within ChatGPT, allowing U.S. users to make purchases directly from Etsy and Shopify without leaving the conversation. This "Instant Checkout" feature is available to logged-in ChatGPT Pro, Plus, and Free users, facilitating a seamless shopping experience. Users can tap "Buy" to confirm their orders and payment details, using options such as Apple Pay, Google Pay, Stripe, or credit cards. The feature builds on previous capabilities that surfaced relevant products and links in response to shopping inquiries.
This development positions OpenAI to reshape the e-commerce landscape, potentially diminishing the dominance of traditional platforms like Google and Amazon in product discovery and payments. OpenAI claims its product results are organic and ranked purely on relevance, charging merchants a small fee for completed purchases. Additionally, the company plans to open source its Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP), enabling other merchants to integrate agentic checkout into their systems. This could foster a new era of shopping experiences driven by AI, allowing OpenAI to play a significant role in the evolving commerce ecosystem.

OpenAI has launched Pulse, a new feature in ChatGPT designed to generate personalized reports for users while they sleep. Aimed at encouraging users to check ChatGPT each morning, Pulse provides five to ten briefs that summarize news and updates relevant to individual interests. Initially available to subscribers of the $200-a-month Pro plan, OpenAI plans to expand access to more users in the future as the feature becomes more efficient.
Pulse reports can include a variety of content, such as news roundups, personalized suggestions, and itineraries based on user context. Each report is displayed as a “card” featuring AI-generated text and images, allowing users to delve deeper into the content. Additionally, Pulse can integrate with apps like Google Calendar and Gmail to surface important messages and generate agendas, enhancing its utility as a proactive assistant.

Eline Van Der Velden, founder of Particle6, has announced the launch of Xicoia, an AI talent studio aimed at creating and monetizing hyperreal digital stars. Set to debut at the Zurich Film Festival's Zurich Summit Conference, Xicoia will focus on producing AI characters for various media, including film, television, podcasts, and social media platforms. The studio plans to develop emotionally intelligent AI personas with comprehensive backstories and distinct voices, capable of engaging in unscripted conversations and adapting to audience trends.
Xicoia’s approach builds on Particle6’s existing technology, including the DeepFame avatar personality engine and a fan engagement platform. The studio has already soft-launched its first character, Tilly Norwood, on platforms like TikTok and YouTube. Future plans involve scaling to over 40 AI personas, collaborating with Hollywood stars to create digital versions of themselves, and expanding into scripted content and live performances. Van Der Velden emphasizes that the focus will be on storytelling and creative expression, defining a new category of AI-driven talent in the entertainment industry.
